Ok, here is the latest...... The dealer will let me trade in my 4-tec for a 2004 speedster 200. My price for the Speedster will be $29,000 which will include a bimini top, the trailer, taxes, etc . So it will be as if I were walking in and buying the boat for a total of $29,000. Is that fair? I'm getting excited. I just hope the price is fair.

It would be whack if I were paying for thier mistake. Any input appreciated.

Maybe if it were an even swap, or with a little boot money I might go for it. The 4TEC is brand new, save for the work that has been done through no fault of yours. Is that the only alternative offered?

They are paying off the 4tec and selling me the 200 for $29,000. I didn't put any money down on the 4tec but made about $600 in payments. The 200 is coming with the optional top and cover. I really don't have much of a choice. I HAVE to get rid of that 4tec! The $29,000 includes taxes, etc.

I just read this entire post. At some points I was outraged and at some sympathetic. I don't think you have given BRP a fair chance. I know that when consumer problems exist they always go through the dealer and contact the dealer, ask the dealer what they think is the problem BRP is relying heavily on this dealer. It sounds to me that your dealer excuse my french, sucks! I have seen this situation before, we are a BRP dealer, we do not carry any other lines so the only manufactor we deal with is BRP. We had a customer last year that pretty much had the same problems with a Sportster LE DI. We know he did not want to hear it, but his kids were real rough. We still were able to work with him and BRP and he ended up trading and getting a real good deal. It sounds to me like your dealer is not going to bat for you. Just to let you know NADA on your boat trade in is around $7500 and a 2004 Speedster 200 retails for $28,299. Have you taken it to another dealer to have it looked it? Maybe they will help out to get your business. Just and idea.

Well I got my new Speedster 200 today! I'm very happy and consider it my best Christmas present ever.

Thanks to Kevin and everyone else for helping out. The dealer says BRP knows I got a bad apple and they say it was a unique case.

I can't wait to test this 310 hp baby out. More to follow.........

Great Stuff!.

Overall the 4-tec motor seems to be holding up just fine, there's not many cases reported where the engine actually was removed or repaired, (reported on seadoo forums)

The 200 will be twice the fun, it's a very nice machine, good choice on the non-supercharged model, it will be the most economic of the 200's.

As the dealer involved with the aforementioned 4-TEC allow me to just state some facts...you decide who has been fair:
1) The boat did have a penetrated air intake hose which allowed water to leak in.
2) The boat did have a bad starter.
3) The starter was replaced, the engine was NOT rebuilt.
4) B.U.D.S. reports were run as well as work orders on all 3 visits and were readily available to the owner.
5) 2 seperate ID numbers were recorded by Seadoo for this claim.
6) Seadoo extended the warranty and gave the owner a cash settlement which the owner accepted.
7) The boat had over 30 hours on it when we took it back on trade.
8) We refunded ALL monies for the 4-TEC including taxes, just over $15,700.00 and applied 100% towards the new Speedster 200.
9) The selling price of the Speedster 200 was around $29,000 INCLUDING all taxes.
10) The current owner of the boat now has 67 hours on it with no problems being reported.
11) We look forward to keeping jpeezy as a valued customer.

I'll be the first to welcome you to the site...I think I will let James comment further on this post, since it was his "ordeal", not mine. Any of my earlier postings in this thread were made purely from one side of the story, and as was stated in another member post, "there are 3 sides to every story", perhaps 4 in this one. So now we have the Paul Harvey "rest of the story", or so it seems. I will be interested to see James' response, if any. It is easy to side with the consumer when I am one myself, and can only say I may have handled things differently if it had been me. Your last bullet- is clearly up to James himself.

I've been lurking here from time-to-time. Just nothing really to post. But now that boating season is upon us - LOOKOUT!!

Anyhow.....I too would like to say welcome keviseeb. And will apologize if any of my comments in this thread appeared to be directed at you. I believe I was the one that mention that there's 3 sides to every story.

I'd also like to add that in fairness to all, we innocent by-standers need to remember that even if we do hear both sides, we're still at a disadvantage insofar as not being exposed to the "dynamics" that can occur between the two party's. Verbal and non-verabl comunication can be very powerful. Some would say that non-verbal is the most critical. And IMHO, I would agree. Let's face it....which do we respond to quicker, the wife saying "take the trash out" or giving us "the look"?

My point being that jpeezy and keviseeb probably had several conversations; the tone of each we'll never know. Hell, there may even have been times that one or the other party was attempting to be helpful, yet the other party's perception was just the opposite.

It sounds like, that in the end, a palatable solution was achieved. It may not have been exactly what either one wanted, but a solution that both could live with. And both party's appear to still respect each other. That's a good thing in my book.
