I have had my 1996 for almost a year now and I have never changed the pump oil. I'm not sure how to do it but it doesn't seem like it could be that difficult. I talked to the local boat store and they said they would do it for about $85 for both engines. Just wondering if this is a good deal.
I have another question about the awful cavitation problem. Could I buy new carbon rings and eliminate the cavitation? How long would it work. I didn't buy my doo brand new , but I can't imagine that they cavitated right off the showroom floor. If changing the carbon rings would work, how hard is it? Would I have to change the stainless rings too?
I'm just wanting to get her running in top shape for this year. I'm going to be boating in the MIssouri River and I don't need any problems with the constant 12 knot water flow. (not good if you lose power)
Thanks much,
steve

Exhaust Leaking in the hull?
23 July 2004 - 07:23 PM
So I just put a new gasket on the tuned pipe/manifold joint. Thought everything was great. I followed youre directions Tiggerman...Thanks much for the help. I just got back from the boat ramp where I backed the boat down and started it still on the trailer (weather was bad). Well, good thing I left it on the trailer. The port engine with the new gasket was started first. She started up and I noticed smoke and water coming in the bildge pump. I guess this is because the boat was tilted from being on the ramp still??? The engine ran a little rough and hesitated to idle. But, the right engine started and won't rev past 3 grand, even at full throttle. It also won't idle at all. Sounds like a carb propblem to me, she's just not breathing. Just wanted to know what anyone else thought.
Would it be possible for exhaust to leak in from that blown gasket and get carbon build-up in the carbs? I did run it with the bad gasket for about an hour to get home. That's the only thing I can figure. Strange how the bildge pump lets in exhaust and water. Isn't it supposed to keep water out?
If the Carbs are dirty, will the fuel additive and spray be enough (please say yes)
Thanks much,
steve

Exhaust gasket

I was out enjoying a beautiful day in the old doo when I noticed some water in the hull...a lot of water. Thank God for the Bildge Pump. Anyway I noticed the water coming in from the joint between the purple tuned pipe and the manifold on the engine. It was coming in very fast. For some reason the bolts were all loose and one of them is a stud with a nut on it and the nut broke off. I bought a new gasket for ten bucks. Just wondering if anyone knows why this happened and if there is anything I need to know about putting the new gasket on. Is this a common thing?
thanks much,

align the engines?

Tiggerman, I was just reading about your retofit. sorry it didn't work out...yet. You mentioned that you realigned your engines and this made the carbon/ss ring seal tighter. Just was wondering how you know when the engines are perfectly aligned for the best seal. You said that your engines just fell into place when you loosened the motor mounts. Is that typical without the retrofit? Like yours, my boat leaks just a bit, and of course the cavitation. Thanks much.
Reverse Gate

Does anyone know where to get a new or used left reverse gate. I was in the boat today and somehow it broke off. Not really sure how it happened. I think one of the screws came out and the water ripped it completely off. Not cool.
