As promised I have an update for you on BRP fix. My dealer just informed me that BRP created some custom manual trim tabs(part #295-000-244) and a modification to enlarge the intake shoot (part #295-000-245) for the Challenger 180. The dealer installed it about 2 weeks ago and unfortunately the weather has been pretty crummy in Southern Ontario so I was just able to get it on some flat water today.
I have to say it improved things minimally. The boat still purpoised but not as much and I did adjust them. As for performance I did not see any significant difference.
This is my second doo. First one was a Sportster 4-Tec with 155( no troubles...just wanted a bigger doo) and this was my second one a Challenger 180 with 215 SCIC. I guess I'm expecting too much from this bigger boat.
Anybody else having problems

I too am in Southern Ontario (Toronto Area). This fix, was it performed free? Do you have a TSB # I could refer to?

I did not get a Technical Service Bulletin # . I contacted the dealer in early spring 2007 and then contacted BRP Customer Service. They started a file and eventually advised me that very few people (< 1 in 100) were reporting any problems. They then proceed to tell me they were working on a fix anyhow. In the end they had a kit made that included trim tabs as well an device to enlarge the intake. Obviously to fix the porposing and incease the performance. They were covered under warranty and the parts numbers were the ones I have already provided. The dealer was Lockharts out of Courtright Ontario. ps: I just heard that BRP is launching a new lineup for 2007 and I'm looking forward to see what they have to offer. The Challenger 180 has not met my expectations so I think its gotta go

Just adjusted my manual trim plates to maximum down (about 3/4 ") and made tremendous difference, almost completely eliminating porpoising, flatter planing and faster out of hole with full load on board. I am so pleased.  Can imagine remote adjustable systems must be fantastic.

Canrad, can you please post some pics of your tabs when you get a chance?

Have not been on line for sometime but I complained about this last year. Good to hear that some dealers are being proactive about having put on manual bennett tabs that seem to be making a huge difference.
I too would be interested in seeing what the tabs look like and what model of tab was applied to your C180.
On a side note I have had conversations with my dealer as well as BRP in the past few months for the same concerns and they advised me that engineering is working on some type of fix (on a tab system and jet intake size) so it appears that maybe there are more than a few concerned dooers.
Keep you posted as to what the progress is for BRP

See "Rough Ride" discussion on Speedster 200 lounge. Trim tabs are a must if you want to smooth out the ride with any boat less that 20 feet, be it jet drive or not...

If you do not want to invest in trim tabs, you may adjust the ride plate (manually) all the way down. For some reason, it comes all the way up from the factory. This will give you an idea of the huge diferrence tabs make!!!

Thanks Rickster. I have no question that trim tabs would fix things up. My point really was that many other boats from other manufacturers in this price point come with electronic trim tabs factory installed.

What about the other concern about the power issue...anybody else experience this issue or heard that BRP is beefing up the pump??
