I have a rave valve that has slowly leaked oil for the year I've had the boat. Now the engine starts very hard, and runs terrible. Sometimes it will hit good RPM's but most of the time it runs 4-5K. The rave valve started leaking considerably more at the same time I started having engine trouble. What does the rave valve do, and can I replace it myself? I assume this isn't a coinsidence???

Any advise would be great.

Well, I've done some reading and a little exploration. I learned the purpose of the rave valve and also found the bellow is shot. I ordered a new one, but from my reading, I'm worried this might not be the whole problem. I'm having considerable engine trouble, and it sounds like this valve wouldn't have that much effect.

I'll get it fixed and see. Big weekend is fast approaching, what do you guys think?

depends on how much time you have, and how much patience as well. There was a how-to here at one time. It isn't too terribly tough to doo once you have your pumps on the bench.

Thanks. I'll yank the pumps off and give it a try. Should I buy the stock rings, or do you have any suggestions for better performance?

Anybody know what the forward latching mechanism is for on the challenger 1800? Yesterday i was trying to dock and when I went to shift into reverse the gear selector lever was jammed in the forward direction. Stupid me I forced it and ended up bending the steel cable that connects to the reverse bucket.Turns out the the forward latch was engaged and since it was engaged the only way to dis engage it was to get under the backside of the boat and manually do it. What in the world is the purpose of this latch? Seems kind of point less. Am I missing something here?

The exact same thing happened to me. I forced it, and bent the rod on the end of the cable. Since then, I removed the latch. I haven't had any problems since.

Strange that they don't sell Speedster200 stuff.

I ended up buying some material and making my own deck pad- turned out pretty good. I did see there is on on Ebay with Blue lettereing if anyone else needs one.
