Ok I'm going to get an inspection mirror and try and see how much plastic is wraped up in-there and then I'll put it on the water. Thanks for all your advice.If there was alot of plastic in there that you got out with your coat hanger thingie, chances are it will perform like it should now. If you can get the rest out, get it. If you can't, it will eventually come out. I do know that fishing line wrapped up in that area can (will) get into the impeller seal and cut it to pieces. I would try to get the rest of it out of there, then run it and see how it does.

Most of the loose plastic debris I revoved with my coat-hanger hook I rigged up but I still think there is a thin band of plastic wraped tight around the shaft before(fwd of the vanes) and just aft of the impeller.I don't see too much more.... should I try and take the boat out first to see if I removed enough of it? Or should I take it apart to doubble check.??? I don't want to damage anything by throwing my shaft off ballance. I circled a small shred of plastic clinging to the shaft still. see photoThat's correct. The vanes and the impeller cone aren't going to come off, just the nozzle. You should be able to get up in there easier then. In your second photo, I don't see any debris aft of the impeller... Is it on the other side, or can I just not see any of it?
cool... thanks for the advice...I see the four bolts you are talking about. It looks like I can just get away with just removing one bolt for the rev. gate cable and one bolt for the stearing +4 bolts and the hole back half will just come right off.Welcome to the wonderful world of jet drives! You may be able to just remove the nozzle assembly instead of the entire pump to remove the plastic bag. There are usually just 4 bolts holding the nozzle on the pump housing. You may have to take the reverse gate off and disconnect the steering cable. I can't help out alot with the manual, but you may be able to contact a dealer and get an idea of what to do. If you aren't comfortable with that, let them doo the surgery. If you would like, take a digital photo and post it - We should be able to guide you through the disassembly from that.

What side of the engine it the cable on? I guess I need to check my new sportster LE DI also......I have a 2004 Sportster LE DI. Purchased two weeks ago new from a dealer. Been on the water twice.
First time was great fun, no problems. Second time was great untill the boat would no longer turn left when above about 20mph.
Anyone else have this problem and what was the fix???
