Yeah, that's the sad part. You'll never know when it's going to happen. As I said b4, it's like a heart attack..it will sneak on us anytime.
Ex-2000 Speedster MercV6- love that boat!

Dale, this could be a very long response or short....lets go with the short. My first time available to go to Sea Doo Sport Boats was yesterday, I apologize for giving input into the 5 or 6 subjects I did and missing this one. Of the well over 100 posts I have done in the past I have intently given facts each and every time. The subject of washers has been discussed many times, as a dealer we have had very few come backs for washer failure which is a relatively low amount by anybody's standards. I have also said that personal watercraft operators have a higher failure rate primarily because our research has shown throttle management has not been practiced while the vessel was airborne therefore when the vessel landed the clutches were placed under a great deal of stress. It is a fact that there have been washer improvements in 2006 to boats and PWC models and then again in 2008 to PWC models only. The titanium coated steel washers will be on all supercharged engines including boats. Keep in mind we are not the manufacturer, when they make product improvements it is entirely up to them. For obvious reasons they don't instruct dealers what to say or what not say about any mechanical issues. If we see a trend in maintenance items we tell them, if they see a trend they issue service bullentins or recalls as required. As manufacturers go BRP is the most forthcoming we have ever seen. As far as other dealers being "tight lipped" I wish more would be like that! The bulk of the answers I post in this forum are a result of unknowledgable dealers talking about things they make up as they go along. On a technical note if a ceramic washer has failed and all parts have been caught by the screen then a new titanium coated steel washer assembly is installed however if the bearings have come apart then a teardown is performed. ALL parts of the supercharger assembly are accounted for at which time a new assembly is bolted on. That is BRP's procedure and although we haven't had to do it very much we think it is the best way to handle it. If you suspect the wrong oil was used then a sample should have been sent away for analysis. We have done that on one occaision because of the Mobil 1 container we found in the boat and found that the individual used synthetic oil when he did his own oil change. Alright, so maybe the answer wasn't that short.

I asked what or who determines that, especially since my boat is and never has been getting the full rpm's, according to specs. Not to mention the reputation of these washers!
Did not recieve a satisfactory answer

Yes those washers are piece of S**T....that's why i removed mines, rebuilted the supercharger to the 06-07 specs, and did install the Riva Racing metal washer in it....2 seasons already, and i am really satisfied about the upgrade.
