I hit up Laughlin all the time. I live in Santa Clarita. . .
We usually stay at the now Tropicana, and drive to Lake Mohave and Launch at Catherine's landing about $15 for a 3 day pass I think.
The river current isn't for everyone. It runs at a steady 7mph. They let out more water at night so the water level rises. . . I lost a canoe and some paddles that way. Early morning will have the lowest water level. The river is quite rocky and I one time on full plane hit a rock. . .it wasn't so bad, and I was very thankful for my 1 ft draft.
We went in October, the water was starting to get a bit cold but I think it was in the 80's.
Don Laughlin's riverside Casino has some nice kid accomodations--the place is old and in process of remodel, but it has a movie theatre and bowling alley that can be good entertainment.
I wouldn't want to launch or even go near davis dam camp in the busier months, it is litered with kids and drunks driving rented PWC's and it is always an accident waiting to happen. I nearly killed 2 ten y.o. girls who decided to turn in front of me and cut me off on their rented PWC. . .
On the river did you make it further south through Topock(sp?) Gorge??? Beatiful country if you haven't. The canyon walls have rams and you are usually pretty secluded.
Next to Don Luaghlin's Casino there is a little municpal launch ramp that is free. When we cruise the river we use that one. It has a decent water break and you can launch with out worry. Docking may seem a little rough but once you compensate for current slow and steady always wins.
