Update
Well I decided to go the route of draining the Tank - I used a 3/8" hose and several gas cans.
Note you can't put the hose right down the fill line (screen at tank will stop the line) - I decided to remove the fuel tube assembly - very easy to remove and gave me direct access to the bottom most part of the fuel tank - where any water would have collected.
I then placed the hose (BTW - I bought a colored orange 3/8" air hose for this - so I could see the position of the hose in the tank) in the tank and siphoned the fuel out - all-in all took about 30min.
I will use some of the fuel in my lawnmower etc...
Well worth the time and small expense (3 new gas cans) instead of a fouled engine
