160 speedster will not start after only running at 4k rpm
10 October 2011 - 09:39 PM
Ok so ive posted a few topics now on this boat and still havent fixed... Here goes... Boat was running fine... Took to florida on Vacation and after 8 hr drive on trAiler noticed oil light on... Boat ran fine for 1 day.. Second day it left me stranded .. Would only run up to 4k rpm... After getting boag to mech he stated they are known for ignition stator(more than one word for it, not stator that charges battery)... Stator is supposibly behind or under flywheel... After checking coil packs, changing spark plugs and fuel filter we went and put boat in water.. After idling for 5 mins boat died and would not start... Spark plugs sAturated with fuel... Finally changed oil level sensor and light went off but boat will not start... Compression good too.... We are at a loss on this and would appreciate any help... Thanks

Question on flushing out salt/fresh water after use
11 May 2011 - 03:13 PM
I was told by a guy with a seadoo pwc that when you flush out your engine after use you should start the engine before you turn on the hose to keep water from getting into the cylinders...is this true or is it like an outboard where you start the water then turn on the motor....ps i have a mercruiser not twin rotax

Fuel issues 03 speedster mercruiser
11 May 2011 - 12:48 PM
I have an 03 speedster with the 240efi merc that is having some of what i think is fuel issues...the boat starts and runs fine off of the trailer and most of the day...after it seems i run a good ammount of fuel through it and kill it to pull up at the dock or something it has to sit about 15 minutes or so before it will start back again...the boat will turn over but will not start--haha other day my wife was hanging onto dock while i backed up the truck and when i jumped on with her to put on trailer she let go and it would not start...drifted into weeds and congested up boat launch..anyways it was embarrassing...can anyone help? where do i start???
