I just tried fixing mine using Jonw9's method - cutting apart the baffle and removing the F1 fuse - and it worked great!! I've had my boat for 4 years and the fuel gauge has never worked - until now.
If you just take it slow, it's really easy to do.
All it cost me was a little over an hour of my time.

I'd advise anybody else who has the same problem with their fuel gauge to try this first before spending your $150.00 for a new part.
