i also have this dubious honour

This past 4th of July my son had the boat out with his friends, they were changing skiers and no one was watching the rope as it got sucked up into both engines. Had to tow the boat back with a little 8hp zodiac.. So I guess my DOO is also in the Hall Of Shame.

Found the problem. I of course started at the wrong end. I pulled out the shifter thinking that that was where the play was. But no it was on the engine side of the cable. There is a mounting bracket onder the carbs. for both the choke and throttle cables. That bracket had loosened up and was flopping front to back everytime you pulled the cables. Had to take the air cleaner off to get down to the bracket. Just have to fine tune the throttle cable to match up to the port side.

Well I guess I spoke to soon. After I made the post I went home for lunch and my son wanted to take the boat out so I took a long lunch and went out with him. Boat ran great we were cruising around for about 35 min. Turned around to come back into the ramps and my son says it's not jumping up on plane as quickly as it was before. Opened up the hatch and sure enough water had filled the engine compartment. l checked the the exhaust manifold with the Marine Tex and yes it had cracked over the winter. Got home chipped out the old and mixed up some new. Started it back up this morning everthing seems to be fine once again. Installed a new battery and new plugs this morning also.
Still have to work on what sounds like the impeller bearing on the starboard side engine.

I had the same problem with my 99 that I bought last year. I too used Marine Tex and it held
for the entire season. Just started mine up yesterday in the driveway, I was surprised that both motors started on the second crank . Ran both for about 5 min. with the hose hooked up and the Marine Tex still seems to be doing its job. Amazing stuff.

Everything is good on this end. Weather is just starting to get nice on Long Island. I just bought a place down in Florida this past Nov. So I have been trying to visit down there one week every month. Going back down this weekend for one last week. When I get back I will open up the boat. I will replace the battery and the spark plugs. I still need to find out where the rumbling noise is coming from on my portside motor. You had said last year it could be the driveshaft bearing. I think in may be in the impelller. The noise is muffled when the boat is in the water. I think when I sucked up that rock and it jammed the impeller it may have damaged the impeller itself or the bearing. I will take the entire assembly apart and check it out. I am sure I will again be seeking your advise.
