should I go to dealer???
13 June 2010 - 08:25 PM
New owner to 99 challenger. Thought 2 engines would be better than 1 but now I have twice the troubles. OK, sunk it second time out, so I took it to a guy I found that worked on boats because I had no idea how to get it running without ruining 2 motors. Come to find I could have probably got it going myself, I think he put in new plugs and went for a joy ride because I had already taken plugs out and blown all the water from cylinders. $300 lesson learned. Neither engine will idle or start right up when warm. I put new plugs in last week and old ones looked petty wet. With new plugs started good but as day went on neither engine would start without throttle at about 1/2 open. even then cranking for a minute or so. Took plugs out today and they are again pretty wet. Seems if plugs are the problem more throttle woulnt help? PO said he premixed "just in case". I'm not smoking so I hate to stop premixing and burn up engines. Oil is going down in injection tank but not by much. I'm really not a mechanic although I'm usually not afraid to try, BUT I have a real FEAR of being stranded on the water, I mean terrified. So question is should I take boat to dealer risking a raping or should I suck it up and start playing mechanic myself risk messing it up? oh BTW, I cannot afford to have a dealer take advantage of me, I bought an old boat cause thats all I could afford...Thanks for your comments and advice.
Drain plug??? I thought you did it!!!!!

OK, Second time out. Had a brain fart. Got boat in water, Lake Tarpon, messed around, parked car etc. Started up, and, gone. HMMMM not running good, no power, stalling... UH OH I FORGOT THE DRAIN PLUG!!!!!! Uh dear...WE ARE SINKING!!!!
OK got towed back. Thanks. Got on trailer. Both engines swamped. Got home, pulled spark plugs. really wet. OK, my question is. Now what? Am I totally screwed? I went over budget just getting this boat because it looked to be in good shape. What am I looking at to get it running and could I do it myself? I dont want to cause more damage. Starboard turns over, port not so much. Yea I had to try it. Thats my long story short, probably need a good mechanic in Zephyrhills, FL.
Thanks
Tim
