did the silicone and tiewrap (is this same as zip tie?) work to keep boot snug? Have you tested it, how long has it been on?Splined shaft.
Removal of the whole deal takes approx 20 minutes.
I used silcone and a tie-wrap in front of the boot to prevent it from flying off.
This is a small design issue, since the boot will never stay on it was designed.
The tie wrap I put around the shaft, in front of the boot (through the inlet grate)
Small hands preferred....

I need to remove the whole unit from the rear of the boat, looks like four bolts and some linkages for reverse and seearing. How often should this be done? Here's the splines exposed on my 4-tec, no lube on these will cause the rattling.

I have progressive and it is 250 a year with towing insurance on the road and water. Good luck!Trying to find insurance for a (2005) sportster 4-tech.
Was quoted $480 CDN tax included for the year. Sounds a little high to me. Anyone have a better rate and can recommend an agent to me. I live in Ontario, Canada.
Thanks in advance,

took my sporster in the ocean this weekend and got some big air off the swells, was fun but a little scarry too. You could easily capsize if you got it sideways. I was surprised it really flies like 8 to 10 feet of air. Was fun but not something you want to do all day or every weekend. Make sure the baot is empty because anything on board is going to fly out. Happy flying!Hi I use my sportster 4tec 2004 in salt water with no problems. I also keep it in the water all summer still with no problems so far. My dealer said with the closed loop I shouldn't have a problem . We shall see. I also had the bottom painted wasn't to happy about that because I thought i would lose some speed. I clocked on my gps top speed with the wind almost 47 mph and when I was taking it out for winterizing one final run I clocked 45-46 mph. I will run the same test this year.because there is no trim adjustment do you find porpoising a problem when dooing in swell or does it ride fairly well?
Also I am curios about taking this boat in the ocean if anyone has experience please tell me about it.

I was brave this weekend and took my sporster out the inlet into the ocean this weekend. Was calm seas just big swells and I got around eight to ten feet off the water. You could eaisly get yourself in trouble out there.Thought this looked like a blast!
