I just bought this challenger 1800 when i hook it to a hose to start it on land motor runs fine. (it is hard to start and fouls plugs though). One wierd thing is it idles at 3000 to 3500 rpm and will not drop down below that. When i put it in the water the motor will try to start but it barely runs and is booged way down if i give it just the right amount of throttle it will shoot up to around 4000 sounding really good but then it just boogs down again. I replaced plugs with no change. once out of water the boat will start run and rev just fine. I work on cars for a livng so im no stranger to motors buthave very limited knowledge about 2 strokes. Any ideas would greatly help. Also i bought boat from mississippi and live in iowa i don't think the elavation diff would cause this though.
