In Topic: 97 Speedster, rattling from one jet pump or engine?

Another dealer told me not to open the engine because the compression was good. They advised me to check a bunch of other stuff that could be causing the 1 engine not to start. So I picked up the boat, cleaned the gas filters and replaced the gas, put 1 1/2 caps of oil + a few shots lubricant (WD-40) in all cylinders, turned over the engines a few times to lubricate first, then evertyhing started up fine in the yard. Took it out on the watter last night for 1 1/2 hrs of pure fun with no problems. At first I thought something was wrong though, but I was just in neutral.......oops. My little brother was real happy as he was having a party at the beach and I was able to give all his friends a drive once I was confident everything was running fine.

New info from dealer. Dealer says I need a new exhaust gasket on one engine. He says the problem is the exhaust gasket is done, letting water enter the engine. Is it normal that a flooded engine bay would ruin the exhaust gasket? The boat was performing great before this, wouldn't stall or have any problems with top speed, reving or take off.

Dealer got back to me today. He said they got the engines to start ok, but bad news is water is somehow getting in the engines. He recommends changing the head gaskets and exhaust gaskets on each engine. Going to call me with an estimate tomorrow....$$. He also said noise from pump area is normal. I'll have to remember that flooding the engine compartment with salt water is not good for gaskets.

Thank you very much for your replies. This site is great.
I tested the engines in water to see how they would run. Port side runs good, other side hard to start then stalls. I'm going to bring it to the local dealer today to get peace of mind. I just bought the boat this spring, so I'm not too familiar with it yet.
While it's at the dealer, is there any maintenance you guys would recommend to do that is commonly overlooked? The reason I ask this is I used to sell motorcycles and ATVs and know that sometimes even though people think they're doing all their maintenance, there's always that stubborn "hidden" grease nipple that nobody knows about.....haha
P.S. If the sleeves under the boat where the props are look pretty scratched should that be replaced asap? I was told to keep an eye on that. Since a friend borrowed the boat they look scratched and seems to be a tiny space there I didn't notice before.
