Starter issues.
10 August 2008 - 03:00 PM
Anyone have an idea of what is going on with my starter. When I activate it the starter will turn just fine, however it will not lift and engage the engine. It just spins. If I take a screw driver and pry it up to engage the teeth on the engine portion it will crank just fine until the engine takes over and it drops down again. If it didn't really get a good start then I have to repeat the process until it gets crankin. Is there any way to fix this without having to buy a whole new starter? Can I rebuild it? Simple fix?
Broken intake grate and rock in stator assembly
07 August 2008 - 12:17 PM
Looking for a little advice here. I was working on the back of my boat the other day and saw something white up in the pump area . I got a flashlight to check it out and found a golfball size chunk of rock wedged in the back of my Stator assembly. Long story short, I was able to wedge the rock out the back with some finesse without taking anything apart. Upon further inspection I saw that the front of the fins on the stator were dinged up a bit, with only one pretty badly damaged . Checking down below I found part of my problem was that one of the tines on the intake grate was broken off almost all the way, which allowed me to suck up some things while I was idling close to the beach. What should I do about both of my problems? Is the stator ok? I saw another forum from PWCToday.com talking about grate options, but I think they were for a different model boat, and I not sure if they would work with my boat. They don't look like they flex in like the hydrosurge does. Can I use just a fixed grate system? Is there really any drawback to having such a thing? These damn parts are expensive, so I want to replace as little as possible , but if not doing so is going to cause more issues in the near future then I wanna take care of that now.
Thanks in advance for advice.

I have another general question
30 July 2008 - 02:24 PM
How long can I rock out the radio before I need to start being worried about the battery going dead with the boat off. I am about to purchase a 4X75W amp to power 4 6-1/2's. Do I need to worry about getting an extra battery?
How do you know when your plugs are fouled?
30 July 2008 - 12:02 PM
My engine was running rough when under load and adding power . It would bog down alot. I decided to check the plugs since it sounded like it was missing. How do you know when the plugs are fouled? A good sign would be when you take them out they look like they were dipped in chocolate cake Live and learn, and damn those plugs are expensive, but she runs like a dream now, smooth and 45. does anyone know if I can just take the old plugs and clean them if they would work well again?
Need some Maintinence direction

I was wondering if anyone had some experience or advice about my current problem. To make a long story short, my tow rope got sucked into my intake and in the process wrapped around my reverse gate? and forced it down when it was in forward. Anyway, I'm not sure what to do about it. The reverse cable will push the gate down into reverse, but will not pull it up to the neutral or forward positions. I removed the cable from the reverse mechanism and the pushrod pulls out from the cable, though it does not look as though it has broken. Sometimes I can force it back in and it seems to stick pretty well, but I don't think that it would last long if I installed it back in, and if it failed, I could possibly pull a sub move at full throttle . That would be bad. Anyway, is there a way I can fix this, or must I drop a $150 and get a whole new cable. If so, where should I purchase this cable from? Any good online stores? I know the PN is 204170135 but would like to fix the one I got if I can.
