Agreed. I could not find a repair/maintenance manual anywhere online, but the dealer ordered one for me. Total was about $90 w/ tax - just over 1 hour's labor charge here in DFW.
While I haven't read it yet, I glanced at the oil change section and it seemed so straightforward. I plan on doing as much non-warrantied work myself as I can.

I saw an online review where I thought the SCIC maxed out at around 55 mph - perhaps that was for the 150hp engine (my insurance company freaks at anything above 40mph). On smooth water in my '06 SCIC, my speedo was pinned at 70 mph at about 9/10ths throttle. I was equally thrilled and terrified at the same time...So I was just woundering as I haven't broken mine in, what people are getting as a top speed (GPS not Dreamometer ) Thanks for posting...

Your comment "...I try to do all my own work." caught my eye. I do all the maintenance on the three cars I own and want to do the same for my '06 Sportster SCIC. Are there any good owner manals available (a la Bentley manuals for BMW and MINI Coopers)? I just took mine into the dealer in DFW for my initial 10 hour maintenance (after 22 hours of use - Oops - who knew?) and they quoted me $195 for oil, filter, and plugs (plus labor). Methinks I can do it cheaper. Thanx. There may not be an "Hour meter" as such on your model.where is the hour meter located on these machines?
Look at BRP parts cat for your model.

When the dealer plugs in their computer it reads the engine hours for service info.
I installed a teleflex hour meter in my Sportster as I try to do all my own work.
My nearest dealer is 12 miles by sea :-)
