I have a 1997 Challenger that simply won't rev at all. When I open the throttle past half throttle, it will either just bog and stall or stay at the rpm it got to at half throttle. I have pulled the air cleaner assembly and the throttle blades are operating correctly. The choke is not sticking. I have disassembled the rav valves and cleaned them. I have installed new plugs. I am about to install new fuel filters as it does act like it is starving for fuel. It does fire right up and idle well but nothing much else going good here. Can anyone suggest other remedies?!?

I have a 1997 Challenger with a single 787 carbed motor that I purchased this past winter. The motor was rebuilt by the former owner and I was given all the reciepts. The motor ran great when I brought it home. Now after being pulled from storage, it idles poorly and won't rev much beyond idle. It stammers when revved and just loads up like the choke is stuck. I changed plugs but that didn't help. This is my first boat so don't leave out the obvious. I am a motor head but don't know boats or much about 2 stroke boat motors. HELP!! I NEED TO GET THIS THING IN THE WATER!!

I bought a 1997 Speedster over the winter. When I first brought it home, I hooked up the garden hose, fired the engine and turned on the hose. It revved up nice and ran great. I shut the hose, then the motor and stored the boat in the garage. I have taken it out four months later and the thing would fire but not rev much past idle. It's stammering pretty bad. New plugs have not helped. I did leave the battery switch on over the winter and had to change batteries. I can see the throttle switch activating the carbs. What the heck happened!!??!! The former owner did rebuild the motor 15 hours ago. I have the reciepts. The motor is a single SBT 787.

Also, can anyone comment on how much oil you should put in the counterbalance to top it off. I filled it. Is that correct. It took about a cup of oil to top off. I was refered by this website.

When I first purchased it, I hooked up the garden hose, fired it up, turned on the hose and it ran great. I shut off the garden hose, then the motor and put it in storage. I did forget to leave the battery switch in the on position and had to change the battery. Now when I tried to start it, it fired right up but now it won't rev. It's been 4 months. It idles but won't get much over idle and it misses. I changed plugs but that didn't help. As I operate the throttle, the cable actuates the carbs....so that's not the problem. What am I doing wrong???!!! It's like it's not getting fuel for some reason. Could the gas be old or not enough in tank? It's about 4" of fuel from the bottom.
