Think I received the answer "exhaust cooling is raw water fed from the pressure of the jet pump. Small holes at the top of the jet pump divert a small quantity of pressurized raw water to run through and cool the exhaust system."  Thus if flush through port then flows out of this intake and dribbles out through pump below (which means need to dry and oil that area afterwards).
