Can anyone shed any light on why our 16' 1998 Speedster with twin engines would sink. It might float for 2,3 or 4 days and then fill with water. We had an automatic bilge pump installed and have put in 2, soon 3 new batteries and have paid out a lot of money trying to find the problem.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Possibilities include: a large crack in the hull, defective scupper valve (deck drain), faulty carbon seals in the driveline. Without looking to see whats happening when it is just sitting idle in the water, it will be hard to tell. I would trailer it, get all the water out of it, then put it back in and try to spot the leak. While it was out, I would look at the hull and try to spot any areas that may hide a crack-

Thanks so much for your response. They think they found the problem after about 3,000 in trying to repair. It seems that the hull needed fixing complete with new rivets. When the rougher water splashed up against it, it would leak in. They found it by putting water in the boat and tipping it vertically to see water coming back out. What a nightmare. I read somewhere that 1998 Speedsters all had defective hulls which Bombardier only covered while under warranty. Can't believe the people we bought this boat from this summer never had a problem. Live and learn.
