Justin, wow thanks for the prompt reply and the video.  Looks like a great boat.  Glad to hear that 310 HP is plenty.  I guess it's a matter of getting out and looking at boats.  Thanks again and if I have any other questions I will ask for sure.

Hey all, I am hoping to tap into some 210 SP owners and their thoughts.  I currently own a 2011 Challenger 180 SE.  It has been a great first boat and has me hooked on the jet drives.  Our son just turned 14 and really wants to wakeboard this summer.  We almost bought a 2009 Utopia SE last year but didn't as we had trouble moving backwards in model years.  We did really enjoy the dual engine and tower as we found way more power, a smoother ride and easier to pop up on the wakeboard. Long story short is that the Utopia sold and we are ok with that as we were not convinced it was the boat for us.  Fast forward to this year.

 

We went and looked at the new Scarabs and they are very nice boats but fairly pricey.  Fit and finish is great and they look incredible but I think they are more money than I want to spend, over 60K for the 21 footer. The 19 footer comes single engine only which has us sort of where we are but different if that makes sense.  Having said that when they are demo-ing the boats we will likely take them for a run. This brings us back to the Sea Doo's.

 

I have seen a couple of 2012 210 SP's with low hours available and really like the boats but have never driven one.  Both boats are the 310HP version.  The major questions are: Is 310HP really enough for the boat? (I'd love to hear from owners about their experiences and comparisons to other Sea Doo boats if you can make any)  I wonder if they main reason they are for sale is the HP configuration (possibly not enough power as this seems the only configuration available).  Are the seats hinged in the 210 SP? (I couldn't believe they weren't in the Scarab.)  And finally any feedback on pleasant or not so pleasant surprises you found with the boat after owning it for a while would be greatly appreciated.

Close but no cigar.  Sea Ray came out with the Jet 21 boat which was internally developed and using Weber engines.  They recently have been pulled before hitting the market.

 

Scarab, part of the Welland/Scarab family which includes Glasstron, bought the BRP hulls and have licensed the engines.  Trying to revive the Scarab name as more than an offshore fishing boat.  Google Scarab 195HO jet boat and you will see images and a promotional video (Facebook).  The dash on both starboard and port side is obviously the BRP one.  My dealer was at the dealer event two weeks ago where they saw the production model and rode in a preproduction model on the water. A 19 &1/2" as compared to the SeaDoo 18".  Looks like single engine only for the 195.   Look like decent boats but the larger ones should be even more interesting.

 

Glasstron also has one on their website and it is less than handsome or innovative.

 

Chaparral has also licensed the engines but are designing their own hulls.

 

Stay tuned as it should get interesting.

You have a great boat and one for years to come. Scarab / Glasstron did purchase all of the remaining hulls BRP had including the new 19 foot that BRP was bringing to market. Also they are rumored to have a 24 foot rather than a 23. Only time will tell.

Here goes... as first time boat owners last year we purchased a 2011 180 Challenger SE (not HO and no tower) and really like the boat.  After living with the boat for one year we realize a larger boat is what we would like.  We have been searching for a Challenger 210 with a tower and feel it is likely the right boat for us.  As far as the 210 goes we like the size, hinged cushions, Transat seats and extra wet storage at the back.  They are not readily available here in Saskatchewan.  Also our 13 year old is starting to wakeboard and the tower would be nice.

 

We got a call from our dealer yesterday and they just took a 2009 Utopia 315 hp (with wakeboard tower) in on trade and we are going to look at it today.  Because of the design of the boat it doesn't look like there is a ton more room inside the boat but under the sun pad looks to be loads of storage.  I also like how the bimini tucks away on the Utopia as with the 180 when we are getting things from the back storage we are constantly flipping the bimini back and forth.  Also it appears the bimini fits inside the tower; cool.  We do use the filler cushion alot with the 180 while anchored and would miss that but the large sun pad on the Utopia might be a wash.

 

What would wakeboarding would be like (I realize it isn't a Wake 210) with the Utopia?  Any thoughts on a comparison between the two boats? We do alot of sitting on the rear platform and swimming off the back of the boat as we like to just sit and enjoy the lake.  How much smoother is ride on the longer boat going to be?  The walk through transom is something we use alot as we spent alot of time beached or anchored and visiting.  We would seldom enter the boat from a dock; only when we are launching the boat.  Climbing over the sun pad doesn't look obtrusive but doesn't look to be as easy.  The dealer is great and will haul the boat to the lake so we can try it out.  Any help is appreciated.

Brutal news. Doesn't diminish how much I love my boat but can't help with resale value. Wow anyone really see this coming?
