Just finished installing my new Clarion M455 and Remote LCD unit on my Sportster 4-Tec SCIC!

Man this is MUCH better, Aux input for my iPod (using RCA cables via Aux In, not that useless Clarion iPod interface), Remote LCD unit mounted just in front of the throttle so the driver can FINALLY operate the radio!

The operation of the remote is great, you have basically full control of the deck including source selection. It also displays whatever the main screen is showing, including the screen saver! I have my M455 set to display a message instead of screen saver and sure enough, it shows up on the remote scrolling across. You can also have the deck and remote show the clock on idle, finally eh, a clock!

One thing that is annoying about the deck however is the backlight is always on, the old Clarion had an Illumination lead. However, you'll notice on the SCIC wiring harness that BRP did not wire this lead... figures eh. Pretty simply to just tee it into one of the blue dash gauge wires that are only about 4 inches away.

I'll tell you... it was SCARY cutting that 3 inch hole in the hull!!!!!! But it all fits good (a little white Silicone II to make the remote perfectly flush since the damn boat doesn't have a flat surface anywhere...).

The M455 just slipped right into the old Clarion's bracket, same wiring harness, same everything. Had the new deck installed in about 2 seconds!

when you took the throttle and shifter out did you have to slaken the cables in the engine bay or did it just pop out?

The Thottle/shifter cables had about 30cm of slack, so I had to pull them out, turn them 90 degrees and have them sit about half out of the hole. There was not enough slack to pull them right out of the boat. Thankfully I have small arms and hands, so I was able to work inside the hull without too much problems.

The M455 has two RCA plugs on fly leads for the Aux Input. You can also adjust the sensitivity of the Aux Input for gain. Work great! I simply used an RCA to Stereo mini adapter to plug in my iPod and set the sensitivity to high on the M455.

Forgot to mention, anyone that wants to do this, make sure you have a 7mm nut driver to tighten the screws for the guage. There is not enough room for a socket set (right angle) and the bolts are too long to use anything but deep sockets. Most nut drivers have a hollow body so the bolt threads will simply go inside the driver when you slide it over the bolts. Don't forget to tie strings to ANY tools you put inside that hole. You don't want to drop things into that hull and have it dissappear!

I might go pickup the 6-pack CD player now just to have yet another toy to connect to this deck since it can be mounted vertically.

Also this deck has Sirius Sat. Radio built in and the new Garmin 396c GPS which I'll get eventually to replace my Garmin 176c has XM Sat Radio, so using the Aux Input, you can have both Sats running on your boat! hehehe.

How much did you pay for the M455 and the remote. I think I'd like to do this. GOtta have the aux inputs!

Looks great. I did about the same thing on my 06 speedster. I replaced the 255 with the 455 so I could wire up a remote and have the aux inputs for the ipod. My remote sits in about the same place as yours, but there was a cupholder in front of my shifter which the remote sits in perfectly. Looks like it came there from the factory. I also installed a Clarion sub behind the passenger seat and a Clarion Marine amp. Sounds great now.
