2002 Sportster just purchased 22 hrs on it, whenever i pull out of the slip the boat seems to suck something (weeds) into the engine. I then have to reverse the boat to clear it for 10 minutes. Is this a common occurence with these boats

If you have a bunch of weeds near your slip, then yes, it probably will. Just going in reverse will not help much getting the weeds out (no more than going forwards). I found the best way to clear weeds is to run the boat in reverse long enough to pick up speed and quickly kill the engine and shift to forward at the same time. That gets the diverter out of the way and lets water enter the rear of the pump to push weeds out the intake. With weeds, in most cases the pump will chew them up quickly once you get on a plane.2002 Sportster just purchased 22 hrs on it, whenever i pull out of the slip the boat seems to suck something (weeds) into the engine.
