I was just wondering what top speeds you have been achieving with your C180s? I have only been able to get to about 35mph with two people, 30mph with four. Is that about the norm? I was reading on another forum about a possible speedometer problem. Have you heard anything about it? Other "boat tests" I found showed top speeds of 46-50mph. Am I dreaming, or is something up???

Mine was reading no more than 30-34 mph until I put my GPS on. With the GPS, it read 42 mph in some serious chop AND it had plenty more left. If it was calm, I'm sure I would have gotten pretty close to 50 mph or at least 46+ mph like the owners manual says. Plenty fast for me. Oh, and I had two people on board as well.

Same for me, only 35MPH. I haven't checked it against a GPS or another boat, but I'm sure it's faster than the speedometer says. Love the boat! What a great new toy! Finally broke the 10 hrs, now were talking!

Yes...the speedometers are wonky from the factory. Mine read 30mph but my gps read 41mph in chop and I've been up to 48mph with 1/3 tank and one person. Usually get 40-44mph with full tank and family on board

i'm going to try to remember to take my GPS out with me this weekend. I will let you know what speeds I'm able to reach. I can't wait!!

I was reading about 42-44 mph this past weekend on my GPS! I'm taking my C180 in for it's 10 hour service in the morning! I'm going to ask about the speedo. I spoke with the service manager, and he told me the speedos have been giving them a headache. Hopefully I'll get mine fixed and it'll be ready for this weekend!!!

i have read a lot of posts about wonky speedometers and mine has been spot on with my gps since day one - which seems to be the exception rather than the rule - although i find it difficult even to look forwards at 60 as my eyelids flap around

60? Damn...call me a rookie but 42 was plenty fast AND it felt like it had more in it so I'm sure the advertised 46 mph is accurate. I can't imagine going 60 mph in a 14 footer then hitting some monster wake.

Well, I got my boat back from the dealer today after the 10 hour service. I had them check the speedo, and I was told that they are just inaccurate. I was hoping for something a bit more involved than that! I read on another forum about an adjustment dial on the back of the speed. Has anyone else read anything about this? I would certainly love to know how fast I'm going while I'm towing my friends!

pyrock - at 60 you avoid everything - at the weekend i took it at 40 through some 3ft chop we spent most of the time airborne! it was a following sea so the ride wasnt too bad, no slamming just the occasional over rev on th epump as it came out of the water.

60mph is strictly for flat water only- but its damn good fun.

When I brought mine in for the cavitation repair, I told them about the speedo so they replaced the speedo unit. I have yet to test it. To me, it's no big deal since I use a GPS anyway. It's more like a cosmetic thing but since I paid for it, it should be working properly.
