Welcome....
With the Merc drive you have, the wear ring and/or impeller needs to be checked for damage. Either may cause the slippage you describe, which would be classified as cavitation. The mechanical parts aren't "slipping" but the impeller is not moving water efficiently enough to get the "holeshot" you want.
