I did purchase it before April 1st. But I was told the additional warranty only covered certain parts of the engine and not the super charger. He did give me a credit towards the full coverage waranty of $300CDN. The extended waranty is $1,895 CDN.Too bad you didn't make this purchase by April 30th...they were giving an additional 2 yrs for free...oh well, I would suggest getting it just for the piece of mind.
Any thoughts?

The Rotax is somewhat bulletproof, but not made out of kryptonite...Just purchased a SCIC. Should I get the 3 year extended waranty? I hear the rotax is pretty bullet proof but with the new super charger, the sales guy says the extended waranty is a good idea. I'm up in Canada where the boating season is only 5 months. Wouldn't mind avoiding the extra cost of the waranty but don't want to be foolish.
Regards,
I have heard of some superchargers giving up , but not alot of them.
Get the sales guy to lay it out for you in plain language, all the terms of the extended warranty, disclaimers, and all fine print. The warranty is only as good as the terms- $1,895 will buy alot of gas.....

I have to agree that the Challenger is alot of boat for the money- which is exactly what the reviews say. Plus, they are sooo sexy...just out of interest why the scic sportster?

Regards,
Find out who the insurer is and exactly what is covered. If it's a company out of Quebec called DFS Advantage, foggetaboutit! They have, and use, every weasle out in their contract to decline payment. In my case, I tried to claim an intake grate because mine had a broken tine. It's not covered. Not only that, but if the broken tine had been sucked into the impeller and done damage, the damage also wouldn't be covered because the intake grate wasn't covered!
I bought my doo used and transferred the five year extended warranty from the original owner for a fee (approx $100). It was a waste of money. $1,800?? For three years?? WOW! Like the other guys said, that can buy a lot of gas at a buck a litre! Sales guys get commission...they always want you to buy the extended warranty, whether a car or boat...don't go for it!

extended warranties from the manufacturer when they are free are great
from the dealer they arent so great, just another insurance policy underwritten by anybody who doesnt know what a seadoo is, and you pay for the privilege
dont dooo it
i bet 1800 dollars gets you a month on a big lake with a log cabin and a pontoon
take the holiday
thrash the doo

Thumper, I did see your comment about the fender socks. It's a good idea. The black fenders here are the same price as white ones ($16CDN each). I think I will end up going with the white ones.
My wife and I originally started looking at the challenger 180 with the idea of replacing the cottage "workhorse" (18ft bowrider with 90hp Merc). The challenger didn't have enough protection against bad weather ie. enclosable canopy and adequate windshields so we gave up on the idea. Then in a moment of genius I pitched the concept of adding to our boat fleet (we also have a 14ft fishing boat with a 25hp) a fun runabout with a jet drive. Well, my wife fell for it. We put a deposit down on a 155hp 4-tec with wake tower but after some consideration we switched to the SCIC and dropped the tower. We both love the black hull and the extra HP should put me (I mean us) near the front of the pack.
I'd be glad to share any info I gather while enjoying this boar like top speed etc. It will be great to compare. I've checked out the hydro turf but think I'll hold off on it for now as the carpet in our other boat is a bear to keep clean.
As for the waranty, it is being offered by Bombardier and the dealership is a good group of people (reputation) and when they say "with this waranty we will look after the grey areas as well" I tend to believe them. Still $1,895 is a fair sum of dough and not something I will easily part with. I will probably call them tomorrow and cancel it.
