I am an audiophile and I wanted something to sound good but since the boat only has a Sony 55wpc cd player in it I didn't really feel I needed to spend 100's of dollars on speakers at this time. I know Alpine makes good car audio and I understand that company's which make electronics don't usually make good speakers. I installed these yesterday and I have to say they sound pretty dam good. Bass is not real deep but clean and better than expected, and the highs have decent detail. With my installation I would say there is a lack in the mid range but I may be able to make this up with the Sony's EQ. I gave them 5 stars because for 57 bucks ($99 most other places)I think I got a great deal and I would bet I would have to spend over 200 to get ones I'd be happier with. They are built well and look good installed. When the box arrived I was shocked how heavy it was. For 57 I expected a much lighter design. If your budget is around a 100 for boat speakers, I would say give these a listen. As others have said it is hard to find the + side of the speaker connection.
