'96 Speedster Bilge Questions

I'm a newbie to this forum because i just bought a used '96 Speedster and was wondering if you can help with a few bilge questions?
I was wondering how would you know if and when the bilge pump is operating? I have taken the boat out a few times and when I opened the drain plug, there seems to be about a gallon of water coming out. I left the bilge pump switch in the on position but don't know if it is operating or not. Also, this is a dumb question but where is the bilge pump? I'm guessing that your '97 and my '96 are farily similar in that they have the twin 85 hp Rotax engines.

The bilge should work by either: Turning the switch on, or by the automatic switch in the bilge itself. My bilge pump is located in between engines, in the aft most portion of the bilge, right by my drain plug. You should hear the pump when it runs and the engines are off. Look back where I describe and you should see the pump mounted on a L shaped bracket, along with its auto-switch (if it is still the stock pump). If there appears to be alot of oil, dirt or "scum" in the bilge, chances are that is affecting the operation of the auto switch. Check your fuses if the pump doesn't operate.

I ordered a manual for the boat today so may be I'll be able to read the manual through when it gets here for these types of questions.
BTW - is there another option for the Speedsters signature line? I don't think mine is an 160 or a 200 so I just picked the Speedster 160 option for the signature.

The DESS doesn't have to be there on my 97- it works by switch or by auto if the water level gets high enough. Check for the fuse in the fuse block under your consoles storage bucket.....Thanks Tiggerman - I don't think my bilge pump is working then because I have tried turning on the switch without the engine but nothing runs. Are the fuses in the panel in the engine compartment, right behind the driver? Does the key plug have to be in for the bilge pump to operate?
Edit: The DESS DOES have to be on for auto operation, with engines off. My bad...

I believe you are correct on this one. I never really paid it any attention. This would really designate a 16 foot Speedster, which ours is not.BTW - is there another option for the Speedsters signature line? I don't think mine is an 160 or a 200 so I just picked the Speedster 160 option for the signature.

Thanks for your help, I went into the engine compartment last night to check it out and found out that the wiring connection was disconnected. Plugged it together and the bilge pump worked when switched to manual w/o the landyard. Thanks again.
