Looking for some comments and opinions from some jetboaters.
Trying to research options for a future boat addition to our family. I am considering a jetboat & noticed 2 possibilities within the SeaDoo lineup. Utopia 185 & Utopia 205
I am looking for a family boat where small children wouldn't be thrown overboard, would be safe (ie NO chopping prop) if they did fall over, and total towing weight (boat, trailer, battery, gas, & gear) would be under 3000 lbs. Of course the boat needs to be FUN!
Will the U185 and U205 gassed & ready to go be light enough?
Would you describe the seating as family friendly?
What engine would I need in these boats to get my 260#'s up on water skis again? 200 / 240/ 250
THANKS!

Ideas for 1st family boat

Well first off I would have to say that the Utopia is an excellent choice for a family jet boat.
I believe that the Utopia would be perfect for your small children (keeping in mind that they are wearing their PFD's at all times). The no prop is excellent for any for anyone, much safer when it comes to boating in my opinion. Talking about fun I believe you still got the fun in a family boat, see some pics here of a Utopia 185:

I have never driven or been on a Utopia but from what I have heard and read I believe it has an adequate amount of room and seating for a family.
Well I have the the 240 EFI in my Speedster and I must say I have had no problems pulling up some of friends on tubes/kneeboards/skis that are pretty close to 200 lbs. and I have pull many times a tube with two people that is pushing over 300 lbs. and have had no problems what so ever. These boats are very strong, I think that the 240 EFI would be enough unless you just want to opt for the 250 Optimax.

Wow - gotta love the sub-moves (with the windshield & top up) I felt a little bad for the 2 girls in the bow, but that is definitely proves this boat can be FUN!
PFD's - check! Being worn - double check or the boat isn't leaving the dock.
Thanks for the info.
