water leak between the jet pump and the merc block

I just got a 1800 challenger year 2000 with the v6 merc...
I've run deep v's with merc outdrives for years but this is my first sea-doo with a jet.... (got it so the girl friend won't keep me busy replacing lower units as the new cottage is located on a shallow bay)
OK .... this past weekend I started and ran the engine for several minutes.... had the garden hose connected to the flushing port... it started and ran OK...
However I noticed some water leaking from the rear of the engine ... it appears to be a small leak above the jet drive housing where the engine and jet drive housing are joined.... it seems to be about dead center and is difficult to see as the space in there is limited.
There appears to be a mounting plate (for a lack of better term) about 1" thick.... I think this is the "rubber mount" that merc talks about.
The leak appears to be just above this "rubber" plate
Question ... what is the cause of the leak.... does this sound like the gasket on the lower end of the engine needs to be replaced? ...
hopefully it is not something more serious like a cracked block.... or its something real simple that I don't know about as ALL my experience (25 years) is with 454 and 502 big blocks with merc out drives... like its a water drain plug thats been removed ... but I gather these mercs are self draining and thus don't need plugs pulled to drain and winterize them
any help or advise is greatly appreciated.... Steve M

Thanks for the reply no1stumper.I had the same problem when i installed my merc. it was on the driver side middle. All I did was made sure it was tightened to spec and that fixed the problem. If not, there is a gasket that goes inbetween the block and the drive, its actually between the exaust chamber and jet drive, it is around 20 dollars
I'll check the torque on the mounting/joining nuts .... it may save having to pull the engine to inspect the gasket.

No problem I just don't see a gasket right there blowing out unless you have recently have had a cloged water line, like pulling to close to a beach with the boat running. The reason I say this is that on the diver side is where the water intake is, basically where the jet pump pushes all that water that cools down the engine. If you need torque specs let me know, or a copy of the manualThanks for the reply no1stumper.I had the same problem when i installed my merc. it was on the driver side middle.
