I have never used GPS so not sure if this is a stupid question or not.......Are there differences when you buy the GPS system in terms of Marine or Auto... or is it just a matter of buying a Nautical/Marine map system for download or whatever you would call it?

I think GPS is GPS, no matter where you are. I have never used it, so I'm not a GPS'ologist..... I can't imagine much difference. I know there are various maps and navigation charts for download....

Any GPS unit is only as good as the mapping software that comes with it. Basically, it takes your exact location (according to satellites) and places it on a map. Most of the smaller units require you to download the maps from a computer. You can purchase road maps or marine maps depending on your requirements.
The thing that's really cool about a GPS on a boat is that you can have it guide you home even in the heaviest fog or darkest night.

I take a small hand-held unit with me when I go anywhere that is unfamilar to me. It is just a basic unit that I also use when hunting, but it works very well. It also tells me MPH, so I can check the speedometer in the boat.

I bought mine at WallyWOrld for cheap because it was a closeout. It didn't even come with a temp. sensor. I bought that on my own. It happens that Humminbird is headquartered right here in 'bama!!!

Totally different from mine. I got a Humminbird Pirhana 3- doesn't have the GPS capability. I only paid $45 dollars for mine....

I went to the Eagle Electronics website and checked out that Cuda 240. Anyway, I downloaded the Emulator ...Cuda240 version and I'm SOLD!
That thing is cool.... and tons of useful stuff on it.
I recommend to anyone who has never used GPS/Sonar, to download Eagles's Emulators and play around with them. What an awesome way to check out their products.
