I have a 99 Speedster and I am running into a question when hooking up the wires to the battery. Obviously, the heavy gauge red cable goes to the positive post and the 2 heavy gauge black wires connect to the negative post. Pretty simple. I also have 2 more smaller gauge wires, 1 black, 1 green, that I don't know where to connect. I would assume that the black connects to the negative post and the green is just a ground. I have looked in the manual and can't find anything on this subject. The previous owner never told me anything about battery connections. I traced the wires and they seem to run back to the fuse block. I feel stupid asking this question, because hooking up the battery is a pretty simple thing. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks. That's how I have it hooked up but I wasn't sure. My gas gauge has never worked and I guess I'm looking for any solution to the problem. Do you have any clue as to what those two wires are for?gbsambo - i have checked min out and the two wires you are talking about ( i presume) go to my neg post on my battery - it may be different for you model but this may help - check out photo

if i am right i believe that if you remove the middle seat you can gain access to the fuel sender on top of the fuel tank - the connections on yours may be rusty?
i presume also that you fuelk guage has the necessary wires connected at the back - as for the green and black wires in the photo i dont know what they are foe unless i trace them thru the hull

If my memory serves me......the green lead is the ground for the gas fill and the black lead is the ground for the bilge pump......as far as the gas gauge goes, it is probably the baffle pickup in the tank, they have a nasty habbit of going bad....
