Hello Everyone,
I'm writing in the hopes that someone has the same motor, and has experienced a similar problem:
After recently going through my second battery in a matter of months, I've quickly realized that I have a serious problem with my charging system. It seems to charge intermittently, if at all. After consulting the electrical section of the Merc manual (not from this site of course), i was excited to find several tests I could perform with a multimeter to problem solve.
Unfortunately, when I opened the engine compartment, I was surprised to find that my alternator was not where it was supposed to be. Evidently the diagrams in the manual are for a 2002, and my 2001 is slightly different. The alternator appears to be mounted inside of the flywheel. Thus the wiring is completely different, and I'm unable to run these troubleshooting tests.
Has anyone else run into this problem? Diagrams or directions for this style of alternator would be an immense help. It sure looks like it wouldn't be cheap to replace!
