Below are the steps to winterize a Mercury engine.
Stabilizer
Add stabilizer to the fuel. It is best to do this before your last outing so it mixes fully with the fuel in the tank, lines, and in the fuel injection system.
Fuel Line Part I
Disconnect the fuel line & pull fuel pump fuse.
Gas
Run until out of gas. Do this with the hose connected and water running. Never run a Mercury 2-stroke engine without first turning on the water!
Spark Plugs
Pull spark plugs & squirt 2-cycle oil in each cyl, put the plugs back in.
Lanyard
With lanyard DISCONNECTED, turn engine over for 1-2 sec.
Fuel Line Part II
Reconnect the fuel line & put fuse back in.
Battery
Pull battery and store inside.
Gear Lube
Change gear lube (both intake grate & stator).
Cover
Put moth balls in each of the drink holders, cover & seal.
