Need battery info

First time post here, but I've been lurking for a month or so trying to get all the info I can about the Speedster 160.
If the good Lord is willing and the creek don't rise, my wife & I will be picking up a pristine 2002 model Speedster 160 this weekend!
Being the paranoid boater that I am and knowing how hard boats can be on batteries, I'm contemplating buying a new battery. The problem is, I don't know what size/type battery the thing takes. I tried calling a SeaDoo watercraft dealer and their parts dept. was useless. And since you guys seem to be a fountain of knowledge, I thought I ask here.
Additionally, have any of you done a dual battery installation? Do you think it's necessary or is it my paranoia coming out again?
Thanks guys and I hope I can contribute to this forum.

I replaced the battery in my brand new 2004 Speedster with one of the new sprial wound Optima gel cells. It was over $100 bucks but you won't have to worry about it anymore. I simply measured my battery and got the same size. The Optima had way more power for the size.Hello all!

Thanks guys for the feedback/info about the Optima battery. I'll be on the lookout for it.
As for the dual setup, like I said - I'm probably just being a worry wart. I'll be using the boat mostly in coastal waters with occasional trips to various lakes. So, at some point I'll have a fixed mount VHF and a depth sounder. I guess at that point I should be concerned about dual batteries. I dunno.
Once again - THANKS!!

Why thanks very much. Yep my Optima was blue on the top. Have not seen it after it was installed but I have great faith in this type of battery. Even if left "dead" for long periods of time, it will still take a "as new" charge again. That won't be happening at my house as my Doo has gone out every week from the time I got it.Welcome to the site Greg and tda3!
Bummer last week, was out riding when a group of people on a house boat waived me down. They had been stranded after the fireworks and had been on anchor all night. I picked one of them up to take back to the dock and their car. I must have sucked some trash into my grate and I could not even get on plane. Took out the instruction book and followed the instructions with the left turn and shutting down the engine. Worked perfectly!

Yep. The Optima isn't new to Interstate, just the name is new. I have a red top Interstate "gel cell" in my Pontiac that is at least 5 years old. It is the same size as the blue top and is deep cycle as well. I have drained it down more times than I can count, and it always comes back. They just have good stuff. Period.I am betting the one Optima battery will be more than you will ever need. Thanks tiggerman for the welcome. I really like this forum.
