I just bought a 97 speedster, and it seems to run fine, other than the dead battery first time out. But it seems to have an aweful long warm up period. The previous owner claims that it took 30 minutes before it would warm up and run strong(normal). Does this seem normal for this model or should it be ready to run shortly after cranking? Any ideas or solutions would be appreciated. Thanks

When I had my '96 it would take about 10 minutes (in the water) to really get all the residual oil out of the engines (SMOKE) - I consider that a warm up, plus it takes about 10 minutes to get out of the no wake zone for me.
30 minutes seems like an awfully long time to get the engines to warm up. If it wasn't for the no wake zone (5MPH), I'd be blasting away from the ramp right away. The faster the engines run, the faster you get rid of all the oil sitting inside them.

The warm up period on my ex-Speedster was no longer than it would take you to warm up your weedeater. Check all four plugs and make sure they are in good shape. They should be relatively dry, not oily.

Sometimes the check valve in the oiler supply lines don't work well and allow excess oil to drain into the crank. This is normal, the boat will smoke like holy hell when it first starts but it is more embarrassing than harmful. As far as 30 minutes warm up....thats a long time, the engine or engines will warm up in less than 2 to 3 minutes normally.

Got it all worked out, thanks for the replies. Replaced the spark plugs, previous owner hadn't touched them. It fires right up and within a minute or two it's haulin' butt. Guess I need to check the small stuff first.
Thanks again.
