Is there an user readable hour meter on this engine?
If not, has anyone added one to their engine. Would be kind of nice to keep track of in use time.

IF you're interested in all kinds of cool statistics about your doo, you ought to go with Merc's smartcraft. I'm sure all optimax engines are enabled for smartcraft. It gives all kinds of data. Otherwise, your dealer can hook up to a computer because the onboard computer tracks info. For details go to:
www.mercurymarine.com
If mine was smartcraft capable I would definitely have bought it. I bought a led readout hooked to the sparkplug that keeps track of hours on mine.
Enjoy...

OK so I read up on the SmartCraft gauges on the Mercury site. Now I have a bunch of new questions.
I take it there is a connector on the engine where the "data cable" plugs into and then daisy chains off to any gauges you would install?
Are the stock gauges on the U205 running off of the SmartCraft system now?
I can't pick up my boat till next week, think I need to stop and pick up the owners manual so I can at least read up on it.
