Hello everyone,

 

I am a newbie and just bought a 2007 C180 with only 3 hrs on it. I took out my family on a ride and accidentally hit the bottom in a very shallow area while I was going at idle speed but I panicked and tried to reverse and by doing that I sucked bunch of gravel and small rocks. I shut it off, got into the water and pushed the boat back into the deep. I started it back on and I can hear rumbling sounds which is probably all the crap that got sucked in. I drove it back home literally at idle speed but anytime I increase the throttle, I could see thin white smoke coming out the back end near the jet outlet...nothing from the exhaust and nothing in the engine compartment when I opened it.

 

Yesterday, I took it out of the water and I was able to get out 4 small rocks stuck between the impeller blades as well as the stationary blades post the impeller. I was able to see scratches on the impeller blades as well slight roughed edges. I put it back in the water and there was huge difference in thrust obviously and the sound was smoother like before but when I pushed the throttle further to more than 6000 rpm, I could see some smoke coming out again. Also, if I leave it on idle with steering wheel straight, I noticed the boat is turning to the left and the smoke seems to be coming out of the back end on the left side as well!

 

my questions are:

 

1- what  is causing thin white smoke to come out near the jet outlet?

2- did I damage anything that must be replaced now?

3- Can I still operate the boat safely or not?

 

Any help is greatly appreciated.

ok, so I just took it to a seadoo repair shop and the smoke is coming from the exhaust...I did not realize there was an exhaust outlet to side behind the jet outlet....I initially thought the vents on both sides of the boat are the exhaust....obviously I dont know the first thing about boats yet....

 

Anyway, he said thats because the engine is overheating as not enough water is being pushed thru. he said the impeller and wear ring need replacement....what a bummer to cause this much damage in less than 1 hour of use

 

so the estimate I got was $557 including parts, labor, and tax....is that appropriate or am I being ripped off???

the impeller is $300, wear ring $64, and impeller cone $13....he said everything is seadoo OEM parts!

 

also, there was damage to a rubber ring with fins that is located in front of the impeller. he said that is pain to change because its glued on with some very tough epoxy which takes forever to peel off  and not worth the money. Besides he said it does not really affect performance. Instead he will sand them down to make it flat. 

 

I also asked him about the accuracy of the hour meter....I am suspicious that mine only has 3 hrs...he said some models have issues with displaying the right hours but the computer onboard the engine will keep track of the correct hours which he can find out once he attaches it to his diagnostic computer.

 

What do you guys think off all this? do you think he is genuine? do you agree with his assessment and plan?
