Hi guys, I slid under my sportster 4-tec today to check the water intake and I noticed a big scratch about 1 inch wide x 6 inches long and few millimeters deep... Deep enough to get to the fiber glass... Looks like the boat scraped a rocky beach or something... I don't know how it happened... The fiberglass doesn't look damage, just a little scuffed maybe..

What's the best way to repair this... Someone suggested me Gelcoat... Is that good enough? Do I need to bring it to the dealer?

Gelcoat is what is scraped off, so yes- gelcoat is good enuff. What matters is bare fiberglas is showing, and you don't need to put off the repair. Get a fiberglas man to look at it to make sure there is no structural damage, and get him to quote a repair for you. Gelcoat is somewhat easy to do and it doesn't have to look perfect since it is on the bottom of the boat. So if your dealer has a good glasman, go for it. Otherwise, check the Yellow Pages for someone.

ok, I'll take it to the dealer for an estimate. It looks to me that only the gelcoat is gone and no damage has been done to the fiberglass...
