Hi Guys,
I'm new to this site but have found it extremely helpful.
Last year I had a lot of trouble with weeds clogging up the motors. My lake gets very weedy as the season gets warmer.
Because the grate is fixed I can't open it to get at the weeds and I can't get my arm through the grate to pull weeds out. is there any tool for this? What if I widen the grate so I can reach in?
I've heard there are other impellers that will chop the weeds up. Has anyone else had this problem? Are there any solutions? Thanks for any help, I really don't want to give up on the jet drive and go back to prop-powered boats but this weed problem is becoming a real hassle. Can barely get away from the dock and One engine is clogged. I find if it sits long enough the weeds will work loose on their own but I end up losing most fo the day.

You could always install a grate with wider opening between the tines that would make it easier to clean out.

Really, Funny the dealer didn't suggest that. I'll look into it.You could always install a grate with wider opening between the tines that would make it easier to clean out.
Thanks.

I've found that if you increase the rpms and then put the boat in neutral and shut the engines down, the weeds usually get washed out. You might also try putting the engines in reverse and revving them a bit to see if that washes them out.Really, Funny the dealer didn't suggest that. I have a '96 Speedster and these work for me when the weeds get stuck. My neighbor has a '97 Speedster and his is equipped with "claws" that have a pull handle under his ignition switch. The claws literally clean out the weeds from the grates under the hull. Not sure if you can buy this device as an aftermarket item or not but it works better than my "wash out" manuevers.
