I just bought a 95 speedster last week, and I took it out yesterday. It started out running good, but after a few minutes the right engine began to cut out. it would run up to 7000 rpm's or so and then go back down to about 4000. It acts like its not getting enough gas or something. Any advice would help, thanx!

Have you checked the lines to make sure you don't have any leaks anywhere?

Have you tried changing the plugs?

Fuel filters, plugs, in that order. Does that engine go from idle to 7000 RPM pretty quickly? Or does the engine run good then start losing revs? If the first, the pump may be cavitating/ aerating and allowing the engine to over-rev (rev limiter cutting it out). If the second, the fuel filter(s) may be nasty or the plugs may need changing.

Thanks guys, turns out the guy I bought it from didn't winterize it properly and it had a crack in the jug. It was shooting out water and then sucking water into the carbs. Got it fixed now, taking it to the lake tomorrow. Hopefully everything works now! Thanks again,

Well, I was way off..... let us know how it goes...

Well, here's the story. Took it out today and it ran a lot better. The only problem was that I couldn't get the engine to go to full throttle. Had it running steady at about 6100, but if i tried to go any faster it was like it hit the rev limiter. Other than that it ran good. Checked the plugs and fuel filters, both are fine. Not really sure what else to do. I had the entire engine out to fix the leak so i know all the lines aren't leaking. Hope someone knows what else i can do. Thanks!!

Are you running out of throttle cable? - You said you had the engine out, just curious if the cable was short when you put it back in.

The problem was the fuel filter, it looked fine, but I replaced it anyway and now it runs like new. Had it out on Lake Michigan today, only problem I had was keeping the cooler from bouncing around
