I was in the gulf yesterday and I stopped to ask a question to the marine patrol.
The 2000 cut off and would not start back up. I got towed back to the marina and
charged the battery back up (I drained it).

When I try to start it today it runs for a sec and thens cut off.

Why? What do I look for?

I'm getting ready to drive it to the Bahamas again this year for a month.
I'm three weeks away and I need to dial this thing in.

Sounds like a problem I had this past Saturday, until Kevin showed me how to start his boat... He will tell ya how.

Merc's are a little tricky. Make sure when you are turning the key that you are pushing it in, this will allow you to prime the injectors while you are attempting to crank the boat. If there are no other problems then it should crank right up, it might take 2-3 tries if the boat is cold but shouldn't take more than that.

Are you sure you just didn't flood it when you were out there trying to crank it back up? I did this a couple of times when I first got my doo trying to find the sweet spot to fire it up.

Kev, I hate to disagree with you but the momentary on position for the key is ONLY used to operate the electric choke on carb models such as the 210 HP. It has no function in the 240 EFI and the 200 or 250 Optimax engines. In fact there are no wires attached to the terminals that are activated when the key is in the "IN" position. So sayeth Mercury Marine so let it be done! HOWEVER, if you turn the key on and wait 5 seconds you will hear the fuel pump run ... do that a few times and it will help starting the boat go better.

It was the Key Harness. It has been replaced. I'm set.

I thought I was brave going 12 miles off shore. You must have balls of steel to drive a jet-boat to the bahamas. What do you carry your extra gas in? : )
