I have searched my area for anyone who has the 210 Carborated Merc engine in their Utopia to see what kind of issues they are having and what kind of suggestions they have for me.
I bought mine used (2001 model) but did not doo enough research on th engine or I may have tried to get an optimax. I am not worried about fuel economy .. mine isn't too bad but it is quite smokey.
Any thoughts?

My boat is not a U-boat, but similar in a lot of ways. I drive a SS Mirage with the 210. I have zero issues. My 210 is new, and runs like a top. I have been told they are a little hard starting, so I prime for about 15 seconds, and it starts right up. So far I have gotten RPM to 5400-5500 and over 50 MPH on the dreamometer. I am hoping the revs will loosen up to 5700 over time.I have searched my area for anyone who has the 210 Carborated Merc engine in their Utopia to see what kind of issues they are having and what kind of suggestions they have for me.

What I like about the 210 is that it is tried and true Merc technology. That means it should last a long time, and be relatively easy to find a skilled tech to work on. Eventually I would like to know what I am doing, but she has three carbs and I would not want to mess with getting them all running right. I boat in the midwest and do not have the pollution restrictions they have on the coasts. The Optimax is greener, but I don't consider any of these boats "green" because they all chew up fossil fuels.
On the down side, my 210 smokes like you-know-what, and SUCKS fuel at WOT. (Don't they all?)
