I put down my Hydro-Turf in 2010 and noticed that it is starting to become brittle and actually a powdery type sustance will come off on your hand if you run it across the top. It's not like it sits in the sun that much since the cover only comes off on weekends during the summer. That is also the only time it gets any use. I am going to call the mfg., but wanted to see if anyone else had the same issue??

Spoke to someone at Hydro-Truf and was told it is typical after three years for the product to start breaking down and flaking. I was surprised to hear the product only lasts for three years, but that is what he said. I just received some samples from SeaDek and they appear to be a little more substantial than Hydo-Turf and the lifespan is five to seven years, longer if stored indoors. I see double life span as a major plus. The issue for some folks is that you will have to cut your own patterns. I don't see this as a problem. I did it on my previous boat by laying paper over the area you want to cover and then rub a pencil along the edge. It traces the area perfectly. Tape the paper to the sheet and cut it. I am going to try this product and will post my thoughts once it is installed. Won't be until next spring, but not any boating this time of year.
