Early yesterday BRP had an interactive "product update" with 11 US and Canadian dealers all of whom were either on the technical committe or dealer forum group. As a member of the technical committe we were invited. Obviously the decision was difficult but was based on numbers and not emotion. Four years ago Sea Doo was producing over 5,000 boats per year, some years nearly 7,000. Last year the production number was under 2,000. That level of production cannot sustain the manufacturing plant. In the usual BRP manner the employees will be well taken care of as they transition to another beginning. It is important to understand that all warranties will be honored, in fact extended warranties up to 5 years are still available if your boat is currently in warranty. The other parts of the boat will, according to BRP, be available through as of yet unnamed suppliers. As Sea Doo sport boat enthusiasts we are upset, pissed off, in a bad mood, and generally not happy but we will support the boat and BRP in any way we can and highly recommend that if you are planning to get a new sport boat you do so before the current supply runs out. To demonstrate Sea Doo's commitment as well as our own we are offering the 5 year warranty package good at any Sea Doo dealer for no extra charge. WOW FRIGGIN WOW. I am so POed that I can barely type. My pride and joy that i saved up to by just turned into an AMC pacer overnight. There is not a snowballs chance in hell of ever getting what this thing is worth. Really a crappy way to do things. Nice to see that they wrung one last season out of their "valued" customer. I guess that the brain trust at BRP doesn't realize how brand loyal we are. I have 2 Ski Doo, 2 Sea Doo and one Can Am in my stable but this will make me rethink the next purchase as I am sure that this letter cost me about 10 grand today.

I don't think this will affect boat value since used boat values have always sucked anyway. They depreciate way faster than autos, are generally harder to sell, and make very poor investments to begin with. They're frivoluus and unnecessary purchases and the only way to recoup your money is to drive it like you stole it and just enjoy it. If you pull the powerplant there's not a whole lot of internals that are uniquely Sea-Doo except for the decals and the powerplants aren't going away since they're used in the PWC line.
