I have an 08 challenger se and just this past year I have been having an issue with my key. I turn the battery off when it's sitting in the driveway on the trailer and turn it back on when I'm getting ready to head out. I'll snap the key on, she beeps and will start right up. The problem I've been having is once I'm out running for awhile and then stop and sit for a few, Ill get nothing when I go to snap the key back on and I'm stuck. Usually have to sit there and mess with it for awhile and it eventually registers and beeps but it's becoming a real pain!! If I leave the key snapped in it beeps consistently as a reminder the keys still in. Any ideas on this?? Dealership said I had to bring the boat in so they could replace the key system and it wasn't something I could do myself cuz they have to hook it up to a computer and program it.

The dealership is telling the truth, all the DESS key stuff is handled in the ECU. The only thing you can do is make sure the key is making all the contacts at the DESS post, and then check the connector on the back of the post.

Thanks for the reply. Just wanted to double check on the dealers reply. I have takin the whole thing apart and checked everything out. Connections are good in the back and the key makes good contact. Just thought it was odd because it only happens after I have ran the boat. The key always registers the first time at the dock. Is it a common thing for the key to go bad??

I haven't heard of a key going bad yet so I wouldn't say it's common, but it does have a coded chip inside of it so it could potentially become an intermittent problem like you are describing. They are pretty expensive too (~$95).
