I'm in the market to buy a used Sea Doo jet boat. I have ran across a 1995 Speedster that is very cheap at an ATV dealer. The only problem is the dealer says it will not start(even with a new battery). Does anyone know what the cost is to rebuild or replace the engine if that is the worst case? Should I just forget it and go get me one that is already running and pay a little more for the boat itself.
Thanks,
Jason

I, personally, might purchase it just for something to do in my spare time. If you are looking for something to get out on the water and enjoy the upcoming season, look for another Speedster. If it won't start, chances are that dealer KNOWS WHY. That is why it is very cheap.I'm in the market to buy a used Sea Doo jet boat. No start conditions could be from several reasons on this particular boat. You would have to start with the 3 basics: fuel, spark, and compression. Doo the engines spin over? If so , what is the compression on ALL cylinders? If it doesn't spin, why? Can you turn the engines over by hand? So many variables... It more than likely has MANY MANY hours on the engines.....
Look around for other boats that will run. You will be glad you did.
FYI: Rebuilt 717's are around $700-$1000, depending on where you get them.

I think this may be the boat in question:
Would be good for a parts boat if bought less than 1k?
EBAY SEA DOO SPEEDSTER

Probably the one. The hull "looks" like it is in fair shape. If I bought it it would be one of those project things...
