I created a how-to guide for installing a 2nd battery, please let me know what you think. When I migrated from Word to PDF, it added some space. But let me know if I let some gaps!

Wow, that is really nice, nice pictorial. I was thinking of just moving my single battery location back to where you put your second so that I could put more storage closer to the hatch on that side, maybe to put the boat fenders and anchor in to free up the other areas. Thanks for the great idea and explanation. I look forward to another reason to go back to Harbor freight!!!

I know this will be a dumb question, but when is it best to use each setting on the battery switch? Should Battery 2 just be used say when I am anchored in the cove listening to the stereo? When is it best to have both batteries on? Just curious as I would like to install this on my new 2011 180 at some point because I also want to upgrade some of the audio components without killing the battery when listening on the water. Thanks!!

Hello!

You can run your boat in the "Both" setting, and when you want you sit out in the boat for hours on end and you are concerned about running the battery down just move the switch to "1" or "2".

WARNING! Just DO NOT switch the batteries while the engine is running as this could/will damage your alternator.

I personally run in "Both" and then when I plan to run the radio's and stuff for a long time, I will switch to either "1" or "2".

Then when I am ready to leave, you can try to crank or move to "Both".
