Hi, I have a challenger SE 230 2011. I have less than 14 hours on it. Yesterday went to the local marina to take the boat out and the steering wheel only turned to the right. Reading another post it does not seems like i'm the only one to report this issue. Anybody have any ides or suggestions as to what the problem might be? Is it a quick fix or would I have to take it to the dealer for repair?

HI Guys, A follow up to my steering wheel freeze up last weekend on my 2011 challenger 230 SE. I took my seadoo in for service at a local dealer. The BRP mechanic and service rep were both really helpful and quickly identified the problem as being a faulty steering cable (thankfully nothing more serious). They also told me that my boat had a pretty significant engine recall based on my VIN and it also needed a BRP software upgrades. Mechanic had all parts overnighted and boat should be ready to go this Saturday. BRP covered all work under warranty.

MDPD,
Glad to hear it was taken care of.
Do you have any specifics on the engine recall?

Hi DDR, yes the seadoo recall was regarding the timing chains on my two 430hp engines. Apparently if they were not replaced they could have broke apart and destroyed both engines. I was surprised that i never received any info about the recall from seadoo, especially regarding such a significant defect. It's not like they did not have my info on file.

Wow, that sounds like a major problem for the engine and BRP.
Thanks for the additional information MPPD.
I'm sure there are lots of owners that will appreciate knowing about the problem.
Doesn't sound too good for Rotax either. First the superchargers and now the engines are assembled with inferior parts. That isn't the kind of advertising they want or need.
(Maybe they can use the old 2 stroke, 3 cylinder engines from the Saab. The ones with only 7 moving parts.
Hope it doesn't effect my 2008 engines.
Glad to hear that BRP is standing behind their product. They did for me also.
My boat was just in to get both superchargers rebuilt with the Titanium coated washers. The port one failed with about 50 hours of operation. BRP did it under "warranty" as my boat was out of the normal warranty period. They didn't say anything about timing chains, although the dealer had the boat for 2 months.
Hope all goes well for you this season.
