97 Speedster Dess Problem

This is my first Jetboat but I do have a 2002 RX that I have maintained since new. Do I need a new Dess post or a reprogrammed key or something like that? Any ideas? I would rather know as much as I can about whats going on before I try to fix it or I could be chasing my tail...and that usually costs alot more than the original problem.
Thanks for your time and expertise...I appreciate it.

Mine does not even beep at all sometimes, although it starts and runs normally, but you can use alcohol to clean the post and dess key. Surprisingly it fixed the problem and the beeps returned.
I think corrosion or suntan oil fouls the dess.
I also have a problem with one of the engine start push buttons as I have to wiggle it a bit when pushed down to get the engine to crank. Poor start button design I guess, or possible internal corrosion as well.
I also had a motor shutdown on me for no apparent reason.
When I got it back on the trailer I saw a rag wrapped up in the impeller. Apparently there are some sensors that shut the engine down if its fouled. Once I removed the rag it started and ran fine again.
They are great boats but as they age there will be some annoyances like this that need attention.
Its not likely to be the key and post itself, but rather some corrosion or grease causing problems.

Hi, Just picked up this 97 Speedster. It was having problems with the DESS key before I bought it but it always seemed to come out of it and run. I have found that now it only beeps one short then one long after installing the Key Cap Lanyard. Also holding the Start/Stop button causes the same reaction.

I have a 99 Speedster with dual engines.

Thanks Ray for the reply,
I too have had the boat shut down completely for no reason. (Both engines completely quit at full throttle) I took the shifter apparatus apart and cleaned the neutral switch and it hasn't done it since, but that may just be luck.
I did check the key against my 2002 RX and the key worked just fine, giving back the "Wrong Key" alert, so I'm pretty sure the key is OK. I bought another DESS just in case, but haven't installed it since cleaning the contacts, so if you need another DESS let me know...it's not doing me any good sitting in the spare parts box.
Thanks again,
John
